Diesel / By The UtilitySmarts Team. When soot builds up inside the diesel particulate filter (DPF) to the extent where the vehicle is no longer functional, a forced regen occurs. When this happens, the vehicle must pull over and begin a self-cleaning process that can take up to 40 minutes time that could have been spent driving. Last modified on Wed 25 Aug 2021 09.56 EDT. More than a thousand diesel cars have been caught without an essential pollution filter that traps deadly particles, according to government figures 95 people found this useful. Driver ignorance could push petrol back up the fleet agenda if problems persist with diesel particulate filters (DPFs). Car manufacturers say the only issue with DPF 10,000 a year with a DPF diesel isn't a good idea regardless of how the DPF operates, unless these 10,000 miles are made of of infrequent longer trips you are potentially going to have problems. Diesels without a DPF - manual X type (2.0 or 2.2), older PD technology diesels as fitted to VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat 1.9 or 2.0 (but only the 140PS 2.0
Owning a diesel car can have its upsides but diesel cars are not designed for low mileage driving. They are at their most efficient on long journeys and have particular problems when being driven

Sorry for a late reply, after some more diagnostics with my mechanic. It turned out there were 2 things that caused the issue. 1. The DPF pump would not pump enough diesel for the fuel vaporizer. 2. The fuel vaporizer was restricted. which resulted in very little diesel getting to the dpf during the regeneration.
