Posted May 16, 2010. the width is a little less then 8 1/2 inches. I do believe it will fit because I plan on building a sump with a 5.5 gallon, and will be putting my ac70 and skimmer in it. But IMO the ac70 might be too much filter for a 5.5 gallon, flow wise. unless you mod it to reduce the flow.
